Contacting A Sperm Donor
Recently, there has been much debate about information disclosure related to sperm donors. Generally, a medical concern is the primary reason Xytex will contact a retired donor. A medical report from a physician may be requested by the Xytex Medical Director, who will then make a decision about whether or not the concern merits contacting the genetic father. Legally, retired donors are only required to contact Xytex if there is a medical reason to do so. Retired donors are encouraged to share with Xytex any changes or updates to personal and family health history.
Of course, some donors do choose to make their identities known (these are called “Identity Disclosure Donors”). These donors are not expected to have any social contact with offspring under 18 years of age. If the offspring requests a method to contact the donor after they have turned 18, Xytex will put the two parties in touch. The Identity Disclosure Donor’s minimal obligation is to update his family medical history – anything beyond that is strictly optional.
