Changing the world?
I
am a very passionate person when it comes to infertility related
issues. I love to speak out for those that cannot, or for those that
are embarrassed. As I have said in the past, I don’t know if I will
have trouble conceiving, but I understand what women are going through.
Today
someone asked me about Xytex, more specifically they asked about
donors. They were inquisitive about the process and really how it
worked. I know that people are going to always be curious and want to
know more. I also know that some people will see humor within the
process. However, when someone continues to make jokes or snide
remarks, I become very upset.
During
the conversation today I was asked about the selection process and even
the frequency of use of donor sperm. I was also asked about payment
for donors, which was followed by, “I know why they all do it now.” I
will admit the compensation is an incentive for some of our donors, or
that was their deciding factor. However, I do know that many of our
donors genuinely care about the outcomes of their donations. No, they
do not know the recipients personally, but they know these women want
to create a family. It is an amazing feeling for our donors to know
they’ve helped create a baby, and that they have made someone’s dream a
reality.
I
know that one blog is not going to change the world and some people’s
opinions. I do know that we can help provide knowledge and perspective
to those people who will never know the difficulties of infertility.
It really made my day when I explained to this person that it is not
all about money, but a small child. Especially whenever she looked at
me and said, “Wow, I never thought of it that way.”
