Sheridan was fantastic. We had a small window to ship my order and she gladly rang me in Australia to help me process the order. Very happy with the service Sheridan provided.

Why Donate
Every year, approximately 75,000 American children are born as a result of donor insemination (DI). Those inseminations are performed by physicians when male factor infertility prevents a couple from conceiving with the husband's sperm, or when women decide to have a child on their own.

There are hundreds of thousands of people in the United States (millions worldwide) want to have children, but cannot. Xytex provides them a viable option for realizing their dreams of a family. Donors are compensated for their participation. Xytex compensates donors for their samples after they have completed the qualification process. The qualification process in itself usually requires around six weeks. In order to maintain an adequate inventory level on you, a years’ supply is required. Xytex encourages donors to donate at least once a week. The majority of donors need a 72-hour period of abstinence to yield consistently acceptable semen samples.

Donor Confidentiality
Xytex takes great care to protect your privacy. Our donor and patient agreements clearly protect and release donors from any obligations and rights to any child that results from the donor's participation in our donor program. No identifying information is released to patients or offspring without your express consent and participation in the Identity Disclosure program.

Donor Information Services
Xytex provides physical, medical, and social information about a donor to the patient. Donors are described by basic physical traits (hair and eye color, height, weight, race, ethnic origin, skin tone, and blood type), social traits (education, occupation, hobbies, special interests and skills), and medical histories on him and his family. Donors provide a personal essay and physical and social information about his family.

In 1994, Xytex was the first reproductive tissue bank to introduce photographs of its donors. Donors must provide a childhood photograph to be shown to clients selecting a donor. Donors may additionally volunteer to participate in the adult photo program.

Donor Requirements
We are looking for donors

  • Between 18 and 38 years of age
  • With a good medical history
  • Who live nearby or have frequent access to our clinics
  • Who have a college degree or are currently enrolled in college
  • Who are, or have been, military or a first responder
Some tests require a sample of urine or blood. In addition, you must be able to provide a three generation medical history of you and your blood relatives. Also, you must be willing to either participate in our Identity Disclosure program or submit an adult photo.

The evaluation process doesn't stop there. Donors are re-evaluated through laboratory screening, medical history update and physical examinations twice a year. A donor who remains in good health can continue to participate until age 40, the recommended retirement age according to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and Health Canada, or until he reaches our corporate limit of family units.

Initial Interview
Each Xytex donor is different, but all go through the same rigorous qualification procedure. This includes a thorough initial evaluation with periodic updates throughout the year. A donor candidate is interviewed by a trained counselor to gain insight about his personality, behavior and health.

At your initial interview, we will ask you to provide a completed Medical History Questionnaire, which asks detailed questions about your health status and that of your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, and any children you might have. Required information includes current health and any history of an extensive list of illnesses. If individuals are deceased, we need to know their cause of death and age at time of death.

Semen Evaluation
If your medical history is acceptable, you will be asked to leave semen samples for evaluation. You must have at least 48 hours and up to 72 hours of abstinence before leaving a sample, so that our staff may adequately evaluate sperm count, volume, and other factors that determine sample quality. Our donors must have higher-than-average sperm counts, since freezing impacts sample quality.

Our offices are fully equipped with comfortable, clinical, and private donor rooms where donors collect semen via masturbation. The donor is not "helped" by anyone, and contrary to popular urban myths, no needles or electrodes are used.

Laboratory Evaluation
Donors are required to provide urine and blood samples for disease testing. Blood is obtained at Xytex from an arm vein by a trained, experienced phlebotomist.

Physical Exam
A comprehensive physical exam is the next step for the suitable candidate. We screen for visible physical abnormalities and evidence of infectious disease. Our medical director reviews all of the medical information in a process that takes about two months to complete.

The expertise of a board certified clinical geneticist may be used to clarify special situations. Medical and genetic issues, as well as sperm quality will "screen out" many of our candidates. Only after passing all of the evaluations does a candidate become a donor.

Donor Referrals
Many successful donors are referred to Xytex by their friends or fellow students. Referrals can be an excellent source of revenue if you are comfortable talking with others about being a Xytex donor. For every individual you refer who completes the application process and is accepted by Xytex, you receive a $20.00 referral fee. For every candidate who becomes a Xytex donor, you receive a referral fee of $100.00.
