What makes a donor UK compliant?
The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) is the governing body in the UK, similar to the Food and Drug Authority (FDA) in the US. Both organizations have very much the same requirements of sperm donors, with 2 exceptions. The first is anonymity, which is not permitted of donors in the UK. Donors used by patients in the UK must have agreed to release their identities to offspring who reach age 18. In addition to Identity Disclosure, a donor may not be used by more than ten families in the UK. It's important to note that because of this ten family limit, a donor is only UK compliant for a fixed amount of time, so if you find a donor that you like, it's best to order sooner rather than later so as not to miss out.
How far in advance should I place my order?
The transit time to ship to your clinic in the UK is just 2 days. However, we do need to provide donor consent forms and other important information to your clinic prior to dispatch. To allow for enough time to complete the import paperwork and delivery, it is recommended that you place your order with Xytex approximately 2 weeks before the vials need to be at your clinic.
How do I know how many vials to order?
It is not possible to know in advance exactly how many vials you will need, but you can make your best guess based on your plans. How many cycles of treatment do you think you'd undergo? How many children do you wish to have? Normally one vial is used per treatment cycle. There is no way to guarantee that your selected donor will have vials available years or even months from now. It is recommended that you order as many vials as you think you may need up front. Xytex offers storage for your vials if you do not wish to have them transported straight away.
How do I know what type of vials to order?
The type of vial(s) that you need will depend on the type of treatment you are to undergo. Xytex offers pre-washed vials which are prepared for IUI treatment. We offer unwashed vials which are also suitable for IUI but would require further preparation by your clinic prior to insemination. We also offer ART, which have a lower concentration than the pre-washed and unwashed vials, and are recommended for use in IVF cycles, but are not ideal for IUI. Xytex recommends that you speak to someone at your clinic to find out if the lab there has a preference. It is important to note that due to inventory fluctuations, not all donors will have all types of vials available at all times.
How are the vials transported to my clinic, and what is the cost?
Xytex packages all shipments in liquid nitrogen dry shippers. We guarantee these shippers for a period of 7 days. With the transit time to the UK being just 2 days, this allows for more than enough time for delivery, even with the occasional weather or customs delay.
The cost to ship to the UK is $585. This fee is inclusive of all duties and taxes, and covers the return of our shipper.
