Danielle

I always knew I wanted to be a mom. Even when I was in my 20s, I thought about becoming a mother on my own if I wasn’t married by a certain age. By 37, I knew I was ready. I didn’t want to keep waiting to start my family, so I decided to become a solo mom by choice.

One of the first challenges I ran into was finding an African American sperm donor. I really wanted my child to look like me and have that connection to my family. I looked at different sperm banks and was surprised by how few options I found. When I found Xytex, I was excited to see several African American donors I was genuinely interested in. It was such a relief to have choices, and that was a big reason I decided to go with Xytex.

My journey to becoming a mom took about two and a half years. I went through six IUIs, four egg retrievals, 3 embryo transfers and eight negative pregnancy tests. It was exhausting, both physically and emotionally. There were so many things I couldn’t control, and I never knew what was going to happen next.

One thing I could count on was Xytex. There were times when my donor’s inventory was limited, and I was on the waiting list more than once. The team always reached out when vials became available. They even called me while I was on vacation! I remember one shipment arriving on time despite a major storm. Having that kind of reliability meant so much when everything else felt uncertain.

On June 21, 2024, my daughter was born. After everything I went through to have her, I still can’t believe sometimes that I get to be her mom. She was worth every bit of it.

I’ve also met some wonderful women through sharing my journey, especially other solo moms by choice. I love being able to share my experience and hopefully encourage women who are thinking about taking this path. My biggest advice is to make sure you have a village. Having people in your corner makes such a difference.

I told the Xytex team that because of them, I’m living a dream. I meant every word. They are part of my story, and they’ll always be part of my daughter’s birth story.

“Because of you guys, I’m living a dream.”
