Karen & Bianca

Tell us a bit more about your background. What do you do for a living? Are you in the U.S.? Overseas? Married?

Karen (left in photo)  is an Accountant for an insurance company. Bianca (right in photo ) I am a Graphic Designer for a local signage company. We live in Central Florida and have been together since Dec 13, 2011 and married since Dec 13,2014, so 12/13/14 is a pretty special numbers to us.

What year did you begin your Xytex search/ pregnancy journey?

We started looking for donors back in 2014. We looked over many sites, until we found Xytex and a donor that we loved.

Are you in a heterosexual couple, a same-sex couple, or are you a single mother by choice?

We are a same-sex couple.

What challenges did you face when trying to become pregnant, if any? How did you handle those challenges?

We have faced quite a few challenges along the way. The biggest obstacle was financial, as a same-sex couple we have had to plan out our TTC journey. From purchasing donor specimens, to the fertility treatments and other required costs. For example, multiple clinics require you to see a psychologist before fertility treatments can begin. To overcome these challenges, we carefully planned out our finances for a year and worked to pay down outstanding debt.

Who supported you the most during your donor search/ pregnancy?

We haven’t told anyone that we have found a donor and are ready to begin. We have talked about having children over the last several years and always get encouraging and supportive responses.

How did you hear about Xytex? How did you go about finding us?

Google searching.

Why did you choose Xytex? What did you like most?

We chose Xytex because we found a donor that we both really liked and thought best represented our ethnicities, interests, and views. We also wanted to make sure our donor was open to the release of their identity to our child once they became of age. Our donor selected the Xytex identity disclosure and that was a major factor in our decision. We also liked that they provided baby photos along with the current photos, as well as the extensive tests done on the donors/specimen (such as CMV test).

How did Xytex compare to other sperm banks?

Xytex was very open about being LGBTQ+ friendly and that really set the bar high when it came to looking for a donor bank.

What was most important to you when choosing a donor? What were you looking for?

We had very specific requirements for our donor. We needed our donor to agree to release their identity to our child, a donor that matched our height and combined complexion, and one who had the similar moral interests.

What would you tell others looking for a donor? Any advice?

Take your time. Budget. Don’t give up. Don’t settle. We had our eyes on this donor since 2016. In 2016 we didn’t have the stability that we wanted to begin our family, but we wanted to start looking for a donor. So we nervously waited, and hoped we wouldn’t miss this opportunity. In 2019 we were finally ready and financially stable to start our family. We called up Xtyex and were so sad to hear that his specimens could not be released due to lab work that needed to be completed by him. We got put on a waiting list and we waited…and waited. We looked around at other donors but none compared to this donor, we could not give in and settle no matter how bad we wanted to start our family. Then in May 2020 Nanette from Xytex called with the BEST news that he FINALLY released his specimens.

Why would you recommend Xytex?

We would recommend Xytex because from my experience everyone that I have spoken with other the years has always been very nice and understanding. Our buying process was quick and smooth, and our rep was very kind and informative.

After completing your purchase with Xytex, what happened from there?

We have consulted with a fertility clinic and will begin the next steps of our TTC journey!

Future plans?

Fingers crossed we will be #momstatus2021!
